Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has done it again! He has been adjudged the top performer among all the Chief Ministers in the country with a whopping 90 per cent of the respondents giving him the thumbs up for his performance in Telangana State.

Month’s after he led the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to a stupendous victory in the Assembly polls, Chandrashekhar Rao has been voted as the best Chief Minister in the country in a CVoter-IANS State of the Nation Tracker opinion poll. While 68.3 per cent of the 20,827 respondents said they were ‘very much satisfied’ with his performance, another 20.8 said they were satisfied, giving him a net rating of 79.2 per cent. Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is way behind Chandrashekhar Rao, placed in the 14th position with a net rating of 41 per cent, almost half of what Chandrashekhar Rao polled.

The closest to Chandrashekhar Rao is BJP-ruled Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur with net satisfaction rating of 68.4 per cent, trailing Chandrashekhar Rao by over 11 per cent. Thakur is followed by Navin Patnaik of Odisha with net rating of 64.9 per cent and Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal in the fourth position. Most of the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States in the country, in fact, figure in the

bottom half of the rating list. Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adiyanath is placed at number 23, third from the bottom, while Gujarat is placed at 11th position, Haryana (13), Jharkhand (18), Uttarakhand (20). Maharashtra, where the BJP is in power in alliance with Shiv Sena, is placed in the 16th position. Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, a BJP ally, is placed sixth.

The worst performing Chief Ministers are Tamil Nadu’s K Palaniswami (AIADMK) with 43.6 per cent of the respondents stating that they are not at all happy with the Chief Minister, and Puducherry’s V Palanisamy of Congress taking the second last spot. The opinion poll finding in Tamil Nadu does not augur well for the BJP which has tied up with the AIADMK.

Winning accolades is not something new for Chandrashekhar Rao, who is credited with introducing some of the most innovative welfare schemes and developmental programmes in the country that are being emulated now. In a 2016 nation-wide survey conducted under instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chandrashekhar Rao was the topper among all Chief Ministers, pushing Naidu to the 13th position then too. More recently, he was adjudged the ‘Business Reformer of the Year’ by Economic Times in 2018.
