BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday extended Bathukamma greetings to the people of Telangana, marking the commencement of the nine-day State festival celebrations.
In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao called Bathukamma a unique cultural celebration that reflects Telangana’s way of life, social traditions, and women’s self-respect. Worshipping flowers as manifestations of the divine and celebrating nature make the festival distinct, he said.
He recalled the nine-day
festivities that begin with Engili Poola Bathukamma and conclude with Saddula Bathukamma, turning the entire State into a festive venue. Women and young girls come together across the State to celebrate the festival with traditional songs and dances.
Chandrashekhar Rao reminded people that the previous BRS government accorded Bathukamma the status of a State festival and introduced the distribution of Bathukamma sarees as a gift to women across Telangana. He stated that the government had also implemented several welfare programmes for women.
