BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday said achieving social change through patient, peaceful and democratic struggles was Mahatma Gandhi’s central ideal. He emphasised the need to shun divisive politics and foster peace and brotherhood.
Paying tributes to Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Chandrashekhar Rao said the Mahatma’s methods of peaceful democratic struggle had inspired him during
the Telangana statehood movement. Gandhi’s path of Satyagraha in the pursuit of democratic rights remained relevant to the younger generation, he said.
He said Gandhi’s life offered lessons for leaders fighting authoritarian governments for legitimate public aspirations. “Leaders should adopt a broad outlook, build unity among oppressed sections and mobilise people across social groups through peaceful movements,” he said.
