Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha on Sunday secured support of BC Welfare Association national president and Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah for the rail roko protest scheduled on July 17. The protest, organised by Telangana Jagruthi along with BC organisations, aims to pressure the Centre to grant Presidential assent for the bills on 42 per cent BC reservation passed by the Telangana Assembly.

Kavitha met Krishnaiah at his residence in Vidya Nagar here, where the duo discussed about the importance of BC reservations, the government’s apathy in implementing it and future action plan.

Terming it a historic moment for BC communities, Krishnaiah called on all BC organisations and political parties to unite behind the cause. He stated that the State government has no intention of giving 42 per cent reservation. “If BCs do not fight now, even

existing quotas may be reduced,” he warned.

Krishnaiah appreciated Kavitha for standing up for BC rights, despite not belonging to the BC community. He reminded that injustice was being meted out to BC for the last 75 years.

“Whoever fights for BCs deserves full support,” he said, adding that his BC Welfare Association extends complete support to her in the fight for BC rights.

Kavitha thanked Krishnaiah for his support and demanded that the Congress government implement its Kamareddy Declaration as well as ensure 42 per cent BC reservations in local body polls. She stated while a GO might suffice, the State government passed a legislation, and was planning to delay BC reservations by blaming the Centre for delay in its approval. She stressed that public agitation is the only way to compel action from both State and Central governments.
