South Central Railway said officials of departments concerned held a meeting on safety aspects in which it was decided to monitor the functioning of the anti-collision ‘Kavach’ equipment.

SCR in a statement said all routes would be inspected for engineering, communication, signalling and surveillance aspects, and undertake repairs where required.

It was decided to improve training to technical department personnel, train pilots, gang men and other staff including the GRP and RPF. Linemen, train pilots, signal

operators and other staff were subjected thrice to breath analysers before reporting to duty, SCR said.

Regarding the rail accident on November 11, 2019, when an MMTS train on the Falaknuma-Lingampally route had collided with the Hundri Inter-City Express, it was stated that the locomotive pilot Chandrashekar, who died in the mishap, had not noticed   the red signal. Sources in the technical department disclosed that Chandrasekhar had applied breaks but couldn’t stop the train.
