Hyderabad: After becoming the first completely digital station, Kacheguda railway station has now become eco-friendly as well. De-compost machine and disposable water bottle crushing machines have been installed at the station.

The bio-waste generated at the Kacheguda station and Kacheguda Railway Colony is processed in de-composting plant to produce high quality organic manure. Similarly, plastic waste in the form of disposable water bottles is crushed into smaller pieces by water bottle crushing machine to generate recycled plastic waste every day.
The bio-waste is collected from Kacheguda Railway Station and door-to-door of railway quarters at Kacheguda Colony in separate green dust

bins.
The segregated bio-waste is transported to de-compost plant, which will process the garbage and convert it into manure in a week time. It produces high quality organic manure which can be used for gardens, plants etc. The de-compost machine was procured by Railway at the cost of Rs 4.5 lakh.
This machine can process 125 kg bio-waste every day, producing 20 percent of manure (organic) 100 kgs per week. The plant is expected to save an amount of Rs 2-3 lakh per year. The project is eco-friendly and saves fuel and produces manure which will increase the soil fertility. Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, has initiated the project in which the disposable water bottles are crushed into smaller pieces.
