Telangana Jagruti president and BRS MLC K Kavitha has demanded that the Congress government release funds for Muharram, a key religious occasion for the Muslim community.
Following her request, Minorities Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar responded positively and assured that instructions would be issued to continue the community’s traditions during Muharram.
Speaking to the Minister over the phone on Friday, Kavitha expressed concern over the Congress
government’s failure to allocate funds for Muharram since coming to power in December 2023. She pointed out that the previous BRS government had provided funds for the same.
She also criticised the Congress government for denying permission for the traditional elephant procession this year, stating that it had hurt the sentiments of the Shia Muslim community.
Kavitha urged the government to address the issue and ensure that Muharram is conducted smoothly.
