Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's dream project of constructing a new secretariat complex is expected to be indefinitely delayed. Though drawings for the new secretariat complex were prepared a couple of months ago, there has been no movement on this front. Officials say the main reason is that there is absolutely no clarity on where the staff will be located during the construction phase.
Officials say that the one option is to ask the AP government to hand over the buildings it vacated in the secretariat complex and move the staff there and begin building a new one in phases."The government is planning to write to AP government to hand over the buildings to Telangana. Of the L, H and J blocks under AP's control, even if AP hands over L and H blocks, about 3,000 employees from 36 departments can be relocated into these buildings," a senior official of general administration department said. The

government early this year had taken a decision to build about 10 lakh square feet of space in three or four blocks by demolishing the current A, B and C blocks of the secretariat. A seven-member committee, which was constituted to look into a new secretariat issue, has recommended four blocks to be constructed by taking over some buildings in 2.5-acre land from adjoining Mint Compound.
The committee identified some buildings such as the BRK Bhavan, Erramanzil government building and Gruhakalpa building for temporary accommodation of secretariat staff but dropped the idea because of the absence of adequate parking space.
