The Jubilee Hills police foiled a child marriage and rescued a 17-year-old girl after receiving a tip-off about the ceremony.

The marriage was being arranged between the minor and a 22-year-old youth identified as Raju, at Peddamma Temple near CBI Colony on July 1, allegedly in the presence of the girl’s mother, uncle, and

aunt.

Acting swiftly, the police stopped the wedding and handed the girl over to Child Welfare officials for safe custody.

Based on a complaint lodged by Anganwadi teacher P Anita of the Venkatagiri ICDS Project, a case was registered against Raju, her mother, and her uncle and aunt under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and they were taken into custody.
