Raising serious concerns over ganja and alcohol consumption on the university campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Hyderabad students on Wednesday urged the administration to immediately investigate the matter.
In a representation submitted to JNTU-Hyderabad Registrar Prof K Venkateswara Rao, Students Protection Forum (SPF) representatives – J Dileep and Rahul – said it had come to their notice that alcohol was being purchased and consumed on the campus.
They alleged that a few
first-year students were involved in ganja consumption, which they termed as a serious issue that could negatively impact students’ health, academic performance and campus discipline.
The SPF representatives wanted strict monitoring and surveillance on the campus. “If deemed appropriate, the university should conduct necessary screening/tests to identify and prevent substance abuse among students. The university should also enforce rules and impose penalties to ensure no alcohol or illegal substances are allowed on the campus,” they said.
