A dispute over a land parcel turned fatal for a married woman at Chintal Thanda in Koilkonda mandal of Mahabubnagar district. Sunitha (28) was killed by her husband’s brothers and their family members on Monday.

As per reports, the woman was married to Balaram around 12 years ago, and the couple has two daughters.

Since Balaram was not mentally sound, a panchayat was held, and one and a half acres of land was registered in Sunitha’s name by the village elders about a year ago. However, Balaram’s elder brothers, Pandu Naik and Manya Naik, were unhappy with this and plotted to take over the land by any means.

The brothers did not let the couple

live together and would often take Balaram with them to Hyderabad. Fed up with this, Sunitha went back to her parents’ home.

Her parents persuaded her to return and built a house for her at Chintal Thanda, where she had been living. Balaram’s brothers used to visit her house and threatened to kill her if she did not hand over the land and vacate the house.

On the afternoon of November 2, Balaram’s brothers Pandu Naik and Manya Naik, Pandu’s wife Parvathi, and their father-in-law Manikya Naik together dragged Sunitha into their house and brutally killed her by slitting her throat with knives. Her husband, Balaram, was in Hyderabad when the crime took place.
