In suspected to be a murder-suicide bid, a seven-months old boy who was critically injured when his mother allegedly set him ablaze last week in Hayathnagar, died under treatment in the hospital late on Wednesday.

As per reports, the couple, Venkatesh and Suvarna, both construction workers, had frequent fights since their marriage. Venkatesh, who was habituated to liquor drinking often came home in a drunken condition and harassed his wife. Even after the birth of their first child R.Kannaiah, Venkatesh did not change his

behavior.

Police sources said, after one such fight on January 11, Suvarna, doused their child and herself with liquid sanitizer available at their home and set ablaze. They were immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital and then to the Osmania General Hospital, where Kannaiah died under treatment.

Suvarna, who suffered serious burns in the incident, too is being treated.

The Hayathnagar police who booked a case of attempt to murder, have altered it to that of murder and are investigating. Officials said no arrests have been made yet.
