The city woke up to an overcast sky, on Thursday, even as the maximum daytime temperature dipped to 34.8 degree Celsius – a sharp three-degree departure from 37.7 degree Celsius recorded on March 14.

Isolated parts of the city, and the state, also experienced gusty winds accompanied by thunderstorm and a light drizzle, said weathermen, terming this as a common annual phenomenon during March. According to them, this “temporary weather condition” will prevail over the next few days, before the temperatures start to soar again. No heavy rainfall is, however, likely to occur.

The IMD on Thursday said, “Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places in all districts of Telangana.” It

also said light to moderate rain or thundershowers were likely at isolated places over North Telangana in next couple of days. The wet spells are likely to be followed by dry weather, the IMD said.

“This is just a momentary phase that is influenced by two developments, moist winds blowing towards the state from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, and an upper air trough moving into Telangana from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh via the Vidarbha region,” said Raja Rao, meteorologist with the India Meteorological Department (Hyderabad).

Apart from Telangana, weather officials said, even isolated parts of Rayalaseema are likely to experience this temporary shift in weather condition.
