With the IMD issuing an orange alert forecasting rain on Saturday, the HMWSSB as a precautionary measure started releasing water from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.

In view of the weather alert, the HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Rddy visited the twin reservoirs along with officials and assessed the situation. The revenue and other line departments were also advised to stay vigilant and monitor the situation continuously.

Four gates of Osman Sagar (Gandipet) reservoir were raised by 2 ft height releasing 920 cusecs



of water. Currently, Osman Sagar is receiving an inflow of 100 cusecs. Meanwhile, with significant floodwater entering the Himayat Sagar reservoir taking it to full capacity, one gate was raised by 3 ft height to release 1,017 cusecs of water.

The release of water from Himayat Sagar is likely to be increased gradually to 2,000 cusecs and from Osman Sagar to 3,000 cusecs as a precautionary measure. A total of 5,000 cusecs is planned to be released downstream from both reservoirs combined, on Saturday evening, according to an official statement.
