The city erupted in joyous Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on Monday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan.Thousands of devout, dressed in colourful clothes were seen going to eidgahs in Hyderabad -right from Masab Tank, Mecca Masjid, Madannapet, Mir Alam Tank, Nizam College grounds and Secunderabad.

By afternoon, the usually packed roads in and around Charminar were deserted on Monday, as the city of Hyderabad celebrated Eid-Ul-Fitr.After the conclusion of their prayers, they returned home to celebrate with their families and feast on the delicacies made today, especially the classic Hyderabadi biryani and sheer khorma, a traditional sweet made with milk, seviyyan, ghee, and cashews.

Of late, the festival is be coming more and more of a family affair, with many people choosing to spend the auspicious



day at home with their family. Many shopkeepers and hawkers are also choosing to shut up shop, and go home to their families, leaving the roads of the city deserted.

While the residents of the city were celebrating with their families, tourists made most of the opportunity, taking in Old City landmarks like Charminar and Makkah Masjid in all their beauty, and at their emptiest.
The celebrations apart, many revellers also gave Zakat -a traditional practice of helping the poor. 

Families distributed food and money among the needy, in an attempt to spread the cheer of Eid among one and all. people from other faiths too, celebrated the occasion by taking off on a gastronomic journey, either by visiting specialty food joints in the city or visiting their friends.
