Amid tension, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams from HYDRAA, along with the town planning and engineering wings of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, jointly demolished a four-storey apartment building in NTR Nagar, Gopanpally, on Saturday.
The building tilted slightly on September 18, prompting officials to carry out an immediate emergency evacuation to prevent a catastrophic collapse. They also evacuated residents of adjoining houses.
HYDRAA deployed ‘Bahubali’, a high-reach hydraulic machine, to demolish the high-rise structure at NTR Nagar while avoiding damage to adjacent
buildings.
Lakshmi, a domestic worker from Narsapuram in West Godavari district, wept bitterly as she watched her dreams turn to dust. Built just last year, the structure developed a dangerous tilt, forcing its immediate demolition and shattering a lifetime of hard-earned savings.
Tension escalated at the site after residents and a group of domestic workers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Lakshmi. They engaged in a heated standoff with police and CMC officials in an attempt to stop the demolition, but law enforcement personnel blocked their efforts and allowed the demolition to proceed.
