Hyderabad’s road names to go global

Mon 08 Dec 2025, 00:31:18
Hyderabad is attempting to map itself onto the global innovation grid, not just with campuses of tech giants here, but through the very names of its streets.

A stretch already known locally as Google Street, along with plans for a Wipro Junction and a Microsoft Road, avenues honouring industrial titan Ratan Tata and United States President Donald Trump, are all set to give the city a geography that reads like a Silicon Valley–Washington DC mashup.

According to an official note from the Chief Minister’s Office, the State government has approved naming the upcoming greenfield radial road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala with the proposed Radial Ring Road (RRR) after the late Ratan Tata. The interchange at Raviryala has already been christened Tata Interchange, marking a tribute to Tata’s role in shaping India’s technology and industrial leadership.

In what officials described as a first anywhere in the world, the high-profile road running alongside the United States Consulate General in Hyderabad will be named Donald Trump Avenue. The State government will be writing to the union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy, formally

conveying the decision.

The move follows Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s announcement earlier this year at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum conclave in New Delhi, where he pitched the idea of naming important Hyderabad roads after global corporations that have made the city a technology powerhouse.

A prominent stretch at Hyderabad’s Financial District, passing the upcoming Google campus that will be the corporation’s largest outside the US, will be known as Google Street, recognising the contribution of Google Maps and the company to digital transformation.

Similarly, Wipro Junction and Microsoft Road are expected to take shape around the company campuses that have driven Hyderabad’s growth into one of the world’s most influential tech hubs.

Officials said these proposals were part of a wider urban identity exercise to position Telangana as the face of innovation-driven India, where its roads celebrate the people and institutions shaping the future. The State is also examining more names honouring distinguished individuals and corporations that have strongly influenced Telangana’s growth story, the statement added.
