In a city with historic roads, crowded markets and ever-expanding colonies, one small street has managed to pull off something extraordinary. It exists on Google Maps, but not on the ground.
Interestingly, on the maps, this street near Begumpet in Hyderabad is named after James Bond, the British Secret Service (MI6) agent created by Ian Fleming. But no one living there seems to be aware of their street being named after the most popular spy character code-named 007.
Located in the B.S. Maktha area close to Somajiguda, James Bond Street, the city’s most mysterious address, is an unassuming
residential-cum-commercial street. When someone searches for it online or enters the location on Google Maps, the street name appears. However, when you visit the location, it is surprising to find no signboards, no painted markings or official display of the name anywhere on the ground.
Some believe it could be a playful addition by online map contributors. Others suspect a forgotten nickname that somehow got digitised and stuck.
However, this ‘James Bond Street’ is unique as it is a place where the location map indicates you have arrived, but reality confuses and refuses to confirm the same.
