Hyderabad woman gives birth to quadruplets

Giving birth to quadruplets could lead to multiple complications for the mother, newborns and even healthcare providers who have to take utmost precautions for a safe delivery. A couple from Moula Ali, Hemlatha and Lakshman, however, had a happy ending when their quadruplets as well as the mother, recovered from the initial complications.

On April 2, the 24-year-old woman successfully gave birth to quadruplets, two males and two females, at Geetha Nursing Home in Marredpally, without any major complications. However, the quadruplets were underweight with each of the twins weighing less than 1,100 grams.

To enable the quadruplets recover and grow, the paediatricians decided to shift the quadruplets to BBC Neo Hospital in Vidyanagar. “For better care, we had to shift the infants to a

bigger paediatric healthcare facility. The quadruplets responded to the treatment and are gaining weight. The mother’s condition is also normal,” said Dr. NL Sridhar, consultant senior paediatrician, BBC Neo Hospital in Vidyanagar.

Quadruplets are quite rare and occur usually once in seven to eight lakh pregnancies, according to the doctors here. “If proper care is provided, such high risk pregnancies can be successful. We are very glad that the infants and mother are doing very well,” says Dr. Sridhar, under whom Hemlatha delivered the quadruplets at Geetha Nursing Home.

Lakshman, 28, a businessman from Moula Ali, interacting with presspersons, thanked senior healthcare professionals of the two hospitals for their support.
