Hyderabad water board introduces robots to detect contamination

To prevent contaminated water supply, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is using robotic technology.

On Saturday, the HMWSSB managing director, K Ashok Reddy reviewed complaints related to water contamination along with concerned officials at Khairatabad. He said the water board has already introduced a Pollution Identification Machine (PIM) using robotic technology to detect contaminated water and leaks.

The system, also referred to as the Pipe Inspection Camera System, is intended to quickly identify and address issues linked to contaminated water supply and



leakages, he explained.

The water board has prepared a special action plan aimed at turning the city into a pollution-free water zone, said Ashok Reddy. Steps will be taken to bring contaminated water complaints down to ‘zero’, the official added.

He instructed officials to gather details of areas where complaints are frequent and analyse the root causes and prepare to assess and replace pipelines in such locations.

Officials were also instructed to make arrangements for laying new pipelines to replace outdated ones and to submit an appropriate action plan immediately.
