With incessant rains lashing several districts of the State and damaging crops, there is a drop in arrival of vegetables in Rythu Bazaars and retail shops in the city, resulting in the prices of vegetables such as tomatoes, green chilli, brinjal, beans, carrot and others going up.

The price of green chilli increased more than twice this month with Rythu Bazaars offering a kg at Rs 70 on Tuesday as against Rs 30

per kg on August 2. Retail shops on the other hand, are selling chillies at Rs 80 to Rs 100 a kilo.

According to farmers, vegetable prices could go up further if the heavy rainfall continues. “Whenever rains occur continuously, the supply goes down and the prices go up. It might take another two weeks for vegetable prices to come back to normal,” said J Shekhar, a farmer at the Erragadda Model Rythu Bazaar.
