The Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered 100 criminal cases and seized an equal number of vehicles for allegedly using fake, forged or tampered number plates over the past eight months.

Of the seized vehicles, 88 were two-wheelers and 12 were four-wheelers.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis said special enforcement drives would continue to curb vehicle identity fraud and prevent motorists from evading traffic

enforcement.

The police warned that using fake registration numbers, altering digits or displaying unauthorised number plates was prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act and related rules.

Vehicle owners have been urged to comply with prescribed number plate norms, including applicable High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements.

The public has also been urged to report suspected violations to the police.
