The Hyderabad traffic police booked a total of 149 cases against auto-rickshaws for carrying school children in excess of the permitted seating capacity. In addition, two cases were registered against auto-rickshaw drivers who were found transporting school children under the influence of alcohol.

The traffic police have launched a special drive against school vehicles carrying children beyond the permitted seating capacity and drivers transporting children under the influence of alcohol to ensure the safety and security of school students.

The special enforcement drive commenced on



Tuesday and is being conducted across the city. Traffic police teams are checking school buses, vans and auto-rickshaws for violations related to overloading, drunken driving and other traffic offences, said Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Joel Davis.

During the drive conducted since June 16, the Hyderabad Traffic Police inspected 1,852 school vehicles, including buses, vans and auto-rickshaws.

The Hyderabad traffic police appealed to parents not to send their children in vehicles carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity, warning that overcrowding poses a serious risk to children’s lives.
