The mercury continued to climb steadily to touch the dreaded 40 degree Celsius in the city during this season. On Friday, according to IMD Hyderabad, for the first time during this summer, the maximum temperatures had crossed 40 degree Celsius.
While maximum temperatures on Thursday were at around 39.3 degree Celsius, much to the discomfort of public in Hyderabad, on Friday the mercury rose by a few degrees and settled at 40.1 degree Celsius. The nearby Medak district too
came under the spell of intense heat, as maximum temperatures recorded on Friday was 41 degree Celsius.
The severity of dry heat was such that during peak afternoon on Friday, major thoroughfares and arterial roads in the city remained deserted. The usually bustling Secunderabad-Punjagutta stretch, Banjara Hills-Madhapur stretches were near empty with motorists deciding to stay indoors and protect themselves from the hot weather conditions.
