After successfully developing link roads in several areas of the city, the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) will now take up development of link roads in fringe areas to ensure seamless connectivity till the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

This initiative will help in addressing traffic issues in different areas besides opening up new growth areas. In all, 160 stretches have already been identified in different areas, including Dammaiguda, Nagaram, Peerzadiguda, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar told media on the sidelines of Credai Telangana’s first conclave here on Thursday.

“A notification to this effect will be issued shortly,” he said.

He said many of the 160 stretches were recommended by CREDAI members. “The good thing about this initiative is that banks are willing to extend loans for these works as the revenue generated through development of these roads will be used to repay the bank loans. There will be not any financial burden on the State government,” he explained.

He said the government was also exploring the possibility of setting up a TS Road Development Corporation to develop bypass roads and expressways for emerging cities like Warangal and Karimnagar.

Focusing on road infrastructure and seamless traffic flow in the city, the State government will soon release a draft policy on Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA). “This policy will assess

the impact of additional traffic generated by new developing projects, including residential and commercial, on the existing transport system in a particular area. This is being proposed for the first time in the country,” Arvind Kumar said, explaining that when a mega shopping mall or multi-floor high rise structure comes up in an area, it generates lot of traffic. A committee would be constituted to assess the additional traffic load and suggest measures accordingly.

From the builders end, they will have to comply with the TIA guidelines to reduce traffic load or pay more fee. Such modalities are being worked out, he said. The draft policy guidelines will be shared with CREDAI and other organisations to seek their suggestions and feedback. Measures are being taken to release the draft policy within a month, he said.

Govt to auction 28 blocks of Rajiv Swagruha

The State government will auction 28 blocks of Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Limited’s Bandlaguda project for builders who can sell the flats to prospective buyers.

This initiative is being planned as a pilot project. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will take over the project from Housing Corporation and conduct the auction, MAUD Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar said.
“After successfully bidding for the blocks, builders can take up minor patch works and resell the flats to buyers. All these modalities are being worked out,” he said.
