Ahead of Dasara celebrations, the city had a visible reduction in traffic on several arterial roads on Monday, with thousands of people leaving for their hometowns to reunite with their families.
Many opted for trains and buses, while others travelled in their personal vehicles, heading to their hometowns to spend the festive holidays with their loved ones.
The mass movement of people out of the city resulted in a visible reduction in traffic on roads, commercial stretches and junctions that generally witness heavy vehicular movement.
Motorists experienced smoother journeys, shorter waiting times at traffic signals, and fewer delays during peak hours. The relative absence of the usual rush
also made commuting easier for office-goers and those who remained in the city during the festival.
The reduction in traffic was particularly noticeable as many offices, educational institutions and commercial establishments remained closed or operated with fewer staff during the festive period. With fewer vehicles on the roads, the usual bustle of Hyderabad appeared subdued in several neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, the festive time gave temporary relief from the city’s routine traffic congestion, which has become a daily concern for commuters.
However, traffic is expected to pick up again as people return to the city after the holidays and resume their regular work and educational schedules.
