A controversy has erupted over the alleged inclusion of Islamic religious lessons in the homework diary of a student at a school, prompting a complaint to the local police.
Police have begun an inquiry into the matter.
Supriya Goud, a relative of the student, alleged that when she checked the student’s school diary, she found that the teacher had written “Read Kalama”, “Deeniyath”, and other related
instructions as homework.
She claimed that the school management was forcing students to study Islamic literature, stating that it was being presented as mandatory.
“It is a kind of brainwashing for the students. Indirectly, the teachers are trying to impose the practice,” alleged Supriya Goud.
She added that she would take up the issue with senior officials of the Education Department.
