Hyderabad receives record rainfalls during this monsoon.

Even as the rains took a short break in the city on Saturday, figures from the weather officials show that some areas in the city have registered record rainfall during this monsoon, with Marredpally, once one of the most sought after residential areas in the city and still a preferred choice for many, recording a staggering 119 per cent excess rainfall in the last two months.

This is when Hyderabad as a whole, between June 1 and July 23, has received an excess rainfall of 65 per cent. While almost all areas of the city received excess rainfall, Marredpally is right on top of the list with 522.5 mm, whereas the normal rainfall during the season for the area has been recorded at 222.4 mm.

Musheerabad is another area which has witnessed heavy downpours since the onset of the Southwest Monsoon. The area, which also received more than hundred per cent excess rain so far, has recorded 483.1 mm of rainfall against the normal 239.3 mm. Several other localities including Shaikpet, Ameerpet, Secunderabad, Amberpet and Nampally had also received excess rainfall ranging from 50 to 90 per cent.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, after a few days of continuous showers, the sun finally came out over the city.



Most localities remained dry, except for Film Nagar and Asifnagar which received very light drizzle ranging between 1 to 2.5 mm. The highest maximum temperature of 30.1 degree Celsius was recorded at Begumpet, whereas the minimum temperature in the city was 21.4 degree Celsius.

According to data recorded at various Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) of the Telangana State Development Planning Society, the forecast is that the city will continue to witness light to moderate thunderstorms for the next couple of days. During the next three days, the maximum temperatures in Hyderabad are expected to be in the range of 29 to 31 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be in the range of 20 to 22 degree Celsius.

Several districts across the State have also received heavy downpours, resulting in excess rainfall ranging 135 to 100 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, had issued a red alert for many districts. Forecast predicts extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nirmal and Kumaram Bheem. Other districts, including Warangal Rural, Jagtial, Warangal Urban, Jangaon, Peddapally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar and Adilabad might also receive heavy to very heavy for the next two days.
