Continuous rains in the upstream areas have caused floodwaters to flow into the twin reservoirs of Himayatsagar and Osmansagar. Consequently, Water Board officials lifted one out of the 17 floodgates of the Himayatsagar Reservoir on Thursday at 10 pm.
The officials released 339 cusecs of surplus water through the floodgate into the Musi River. “One floodgate of the reservoir has been raised by one foot to release floodwaters downstream. Currently, Himayatsagar has an inflow of 1000 cusecs and an outflow of 339 cusecs,” according to an official release.
As the reservoir gates were lifted to release water downstream, HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy advised coordination with the concerned Water Board officials, along with the administrative machinery of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, as well as with HYDRAA, GHMC, and police department officials.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Collector Harichandana Dasari alerted the Hyderabad district revenue officials and opened a control room in the
Hyderabad Collectorate.
“A control room has been set up at the Hyderabad Collector’s Office due to the rains. If there are issues like water entering homes, traffic disruptions, or electricity problems in the city, people are advised to immediately call the control room at: 040-23202813 or 7416687878 and report issues to the relevant officials,” according to an official release.
City residents are also advised to remain vigilant, and leaves of the district’s tahsildars have been cancelled to ensure they are available to the public.
