The Hyderabad city police have cautioned students seeking admission into degree courses against falling prey to misleading advertisements by unaffiliated colleges claiming to have recognition from Osmania University.
City Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar said that several degree colleges have been promoting themselves as being affiliated with Osmania University despite lacking the required approval. The issue was brought to the attention of the police by senior officials of Osmania University, following which an inquiry was conducted.
“The investigation revealed that these institutions had not received affiliation or permission from the university. The colleges were allegedly using false claims and misleading advertisements to attract admissions, putting the academic
future of students at risk,” said VC Sajjanar.
The police have initiated legal action against institutions found violating regulations and conducting admissions through misleading publicity. Students and parents have been advised to verify a college’s affiliation status before taking admission and not to rely on advertisements alone.
The police urged aspiring students to seek admissions only through colleges listed on the government’s official Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) portal, which includes institutions with valid recognition.
Sajjanar warned of strict action against managements that mislead students, the police appealed to the public to report any such unaffiliated colleges by calling Dial 100 or informing the nearest police station.
