Hyderabad police step up security for Ganesh immersion, Friday prayers

City police have roped in community elders and local peace committee members to ensure the peaceful conduct of Ganesh idol immersion procession scheduled for Friday, which coincides with the afternoon Friday prayers at mosques across the city.

As a precautionary measure to prevent any misunderstanding and deny troublemakers an opportunity to disrupt communal harmony, the police are coordinating with community leaders and taking security measures.

Community elders and peace committee members have appealed to Muslims to offer Friday afternoon prayers at their local mosques and avoid heading towards Charminar, particularly during the



immersion procession.

The police are hopeful that the number of worshippers gathering at Charminar mosque will be relatively low, as commercial establishments in the area are expected to remain closed on account of idol immersion procession.

However, the police are leaving nothing to chance and are making comprehensive security arrangements. Rapid Action Force personnel, the Commissioner’s Task Force, civil police personnel and plainclothes officers will be deployed at strategic locations to maintain law and order, and movement of crowds and activities in sensitive areas will be closely monitored through drones and surveillance cameras.
