Continuing their efforts to ensure a safe and healthy Hyderabad, the city police on Friday asked the people to exercise more caution while purchasing mangoes as several shopkeepers were found to be ripening mangoes using chemicals.
In an advisory, the police said that mangoes started arriving at the markets with the onset of summer. However, people must not forget the harsh truth that hidden within these mouthwatering fruits was poisonous
chemicals. Driven by greed for money, some selfish traders are putting the lives of people at risk.
“Mangoes that should naturally ripen are being artificially ripened using calcium carbide and other chemicals, and then sold. Buying every fruit that gleams on roadside carts, appearing extremely attractive with a golden hue, and assuming it's of good quality amounts to inviting illness upon oneself,” said Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar.
