Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N V S Reddy said on Tuesday that the Metro Rail would be thrown open to public in 2017 either on the occasion of Ugadi or on the Telangana Formation Day.
The HMR MD was talking to the media on the sidelines of a meeting organised in connection with the international recognition for HMRL-HBC-UN Habitat bicycle connectivity project here on Tuesday.
The HMR MD brushed aside rumours of L&T trying to get rid of the project works, and said that the construction giant had spent Rs 11,500 crore till date and all the works were going on smoothly in the city. The HMR MD said that 70 per cent of the project works were completed, including the 8-km stretch between Nagole-

Mettuguda and the 12-km stretch between Miyapur-S R Nagar. These two stretches were isolated sections, so their inauguration was put on hold.
“Either by Ugadi or by State Formation Day in June, the project would be completed as much as possible and thrown open to public,” said NVS Reddy.Out of the total 72-km elevated Metro Rail project, the foundations were completed up to 60 km, pillars up to 57 km, and viaduct works were completed up to 48 km.
Regarding the contentious alignment issue in Old City, the HMR MD said that there was difference of opinion among two sections in the Old City. “There are sensitive issues as there are religious structures along the corridor.
