Metro passengers can now watch their favourite movies, catch up with music of their choice and even play games, with the Hyderabad Metro launching seamless in-train entertainment facilities in association with SugarBox Networks, here on Tuesday.

Hyderabad Metro is the first Metro service in the country to introduce such seamless and ‘in-flight’ like facilities for its commuters. Users do not require mobile data to access the service.

SugarBox, a local Wi-Fi network provides an uninterrupted access to apps, without any data charges and presently users can access content on Zee5 or FreePlay app, both on Android and iOS. These Wi-Fi zones are set up inside all the Metro trains and at nine major stations. It is offered free for the first two months and subscription charges will be applicable thereafter for premium content, said Hyderabad Metro

The facility is now available at Ameerpet, JNTU, Begumpet, Nagole, Uppal, Miyapur, KPHB, Kukatpally and Secunderabad (East) stations. Reddy also wanted SugarBox networks to extend education, knowledge-related movies and videos, e-learning, shopping, food delivery, last mile connectivity cab booking etc.

SugarBox CEO Rohit Paranjpe agreed on introducing these facilities in the next few months and said, “We are starting with Zee5 and will have more apps across categories on the platform shortly.”

L&TMRHL Chief Operating Officer Anil Kumar Saini announced that a new app-based and QR code-enabled ticketing system would be launched by this month-end and more app based and other digital facilities were in the pipeline.
