Hyderabad Metro Rail allows women to carry pepper spray onboard

The Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have on Wednesday issued instructions to security personnel to permit girls and women to carry pepper spray while travelling on Metro trains in the city.

These instructions were given in response to queries being raised regarding allowing girls and women to carry pepper spray on Metro trains as a self defence mechanism on the lines of the



practice in Metro trains in Bengaluru.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited had decided to allow the women with pepper spray to board trains after the Shadnagar rape-murder, according to reports, following which queries were raised about the same here. Pepper sprays were hitherto banned on the trains for security reasons.
