Hyderabad is a mini-India with people from different States residing here for decades, said IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday.

“We have Gujarati lane, Punjabi Bagh, Sindhi Colony, Parsigutta and many more localities in the city. People from all the States, be it Bengalis, Kannadigas, Maharashtrians or Keralites, came to the city decades ago and made it their home,” he said.

Speaking after inaugurating the three-day International Kite and Sweet Festival-2020 organised by Tourism Department at Parade Grounds here, the Minister said the unity in diversity is something that India truly defines. Hyderabad has emerged as an ideal cosmopolitan city for lakhs of people who came from different States and were staying here, he said.

It’s not only Ahmedabad where kite festival is organised on a grand note every year but for the last five years, the



Tourism Department is organising the festival in a splendid manner here.

Starting with kite festival, the event has become more popular with sweet festival also conducted. Those residing in the twin cities can visit Parade Grounds and spend hours with their family to relish their favorite food and fly kites as part of the festival, Rama Rao said.

He said the city should become a care of address for the kite festival in future and appreciated the officials concerned for making elaborate arrangements to make the event a grand success. Kite flyers from 15 countries including Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka etc are participating in the event.

As many as 1,000 varieties of sweets and snacks are on offer at the event. Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud, Secretary for Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture, Burra Venkatesham and others were also present.
