Its trunk raised, an elephant greets commuters at a junction, while near a flyover are giraffes, their necks stretched out, and another junction has a bear family sitting silently. Hyderabad’s junctions indeed are being taken over by the animals!

As part of Hyderabad beautification works, these animal sculptures are adding character and colour to junctions, which otherwise are chaotic with constant vehicular movement and honking.

One of the main attractions is an elephant sculpture with its trunk raised as if it is greeting people at Nanal Nagar Circle. A few kilometres down this circle, three horses in motion have been installed at Shaikpet flyover, adding artistic elements to the busy

flyover.

At MindSpace Junction in Madhapur, a bear’s family sits on a lawn, and a steel cat stands frozen mid-climb onto the flyover. Similarly, Camels, the desert ships, are out at Khairatabad, while large pink flamingos stand underneath the Metro Station Lakdikapul as if waiting for public transport. The towering giraffe motifs installed at the start of Khairatabad flyover have become a photo spot for people who visit Necklace Road or Hussain Sagar.

However, many of these eye-catching structures are subjected to neglect. For instance, the elephant at Nanal Nagar circle lacks proper landscaping of the area. Similarly, the paint is peeling off on a few structures, which have become dull due to exposure to sun and pollution.
