Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Tuesday said that it is essential for parents, school managements, and drivers to work together responsibly and in coordination to ensure the safety of children while dropping and picking them up from the school.

Referring to a recent incident that took place in Maharashtra, he said that children should be taught road safety rules from an early age.

They should be encouraged to develop the habit of "Stop, Look, and Cross", to look both ways before crossing the road and cross slowly only when there are no vehicles.

As much as possible, young children should not cross the road

alone. It is best to ensure they are supervised by an adult.

It is not only the responsibility of the bus staff to transport students, but also to ensure they get off the bus safely.

The bus attendant should personally accompany the student until they cross the road safely or have been handed over to their parents.

Be extremely alert, as children may suddenly run onto the road from in front of or behind a stopped bus. Life is more important than rushing during a journey.

A moment of patience and a little alertness can prevent tragedy from entering many families, he added.
