Amid the ongoing IPL season, Hyderabad Police has issued a strong warning against the rising number of online betting scams being promoted under the guise of ‘IPL predictions.’
Taking to social media, City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Tuesday said that cyber fraudsters were exploiting cricket fever on social media platforms by posting misleading advertisements and claiming to predict match outcomes, including toss results and winners.
“These fake claims are used to lure unsuspecting users into subscribing to their channels and eventually push them into illegal betting
activities,” he said.
He cautioned that several influencers and pages are deliberately spreading such deceptive content for financial gain, putting the public at risk of losing their hard-earned money.
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Department has intensified its crackdown on these activities. In the past month alone, authorities have blocked 494 paid advertisements and taken down 129 social media profiles involved in promoting such scams.
Officials said that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for running or endorsing these fraudulent schemes.
