With the summer season beginning and demand for water tankers rising, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has warned legal action against individuals, particularly private water tanker owners, who use the water board logo without authorisation.

HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy responded to a recent incident in which the water board logo was being misused and said the use of water board logo without permission was illegal and could mislead the public by creating the perception that private tankers were part of government services. This undermined public trust and was recognised as a fraudulent act.

The HMWSSB also learnt that some private borewell tanker operators were illegally supplying

water to the public using the water board’s name, logo and brand, leading to false impressions on the water supply.

An official said water from private tankers was typically sourced from borewells and not purified according to water board standards, nor was it quality tested, and that using this water posed a risk of health issues, said Ashok Reddy.

He advised the general public not to rely on private tanker operators, saying the quality of this water might not be safe and could be harmful to health. Consumers have to book tankers for drinking water only through the HMWSSB’s metro customer care (official customer care) or toll-free number by dialling 155313, and obtain safe and purified drinking water.
