The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) plans to reduce water supply from the Manjeera source by 10 million gallons per day (MGD) from December to conserve resources and prepare for peak summer demand.
The Water Board is currently drawing 71 MGD from Singur against its scheduled allocation of 75 MGD, a shortfall of 4 MGD. It is drawing 44 MGD from Manjeera against the scheduled 45 MGD, a shortfall of 1 MGD.
HMWSSB sources told Telangana Today that Singur’s water level stood at 1,689 ft against
its full tank level (FTL) of 1,717 ft, while Manjeera’s level was 1,642 ft against an FTL of 1,651 ft.
“We expect water levels in both sources to dip significantly in about a month. Keeping this in view, there is a proposal to reduce supply by 10 MGD from the Manjeera source,” an official said.
The Manjeera water supply network managed by HMWSSB serves several parts of Hyderabad’s western, northwestern and northern suburbs, as well as defence establishments, industrial areas and Secunderabad Cantonment.
