Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali said the reforms introduced by the Telangana Prisons Department to prevent crimes were the best in India.

Speaking after inaugurating a petrol bunk on the premises of Heritage Jail Museum in Sangareddy on Thursday, the Home Minister said the Prisons Department’s work had won accolades of their counterparts from across the nation and other parts of the globe. The BPCL petrol bunk is the second one launched by the Prisons Department in Sangareddy district, with the first facility being IOCL petrol bunk, set up in June 2018, at Kashipur near Sangareddy Jail.

Hailing the department as the best in the nation, Mahmood Ali said the inmates of jails were being provided with training in making steel furniture, running petrol bunks and manufacturing several other products, which were being sold in ‘My Nation’ outlets across the State.

Stating that they were opening the 19th Prisons Department-run petrol bunk on Thursday, the Minister said

the facilities were known for giving the best quality and accurate quantity of petrol in the State. He further said all his vehicles would go for refilling at a bunk at Chanchalguda Jail.

The Home Minister said they were employing 350 persons, which include convicted and released prisoners. Since not many were showing interest in hiring the released prisoners, Mahmood Ali said the department was making all-out efforts to create employment to them and this was playing a vital role in preventing them from committing offences again. He also said they were providing a handsome salary of Rs 12,000 per month in municipalities and Rs 15,000 in municipal corporations.

DGP, Prisons and Correctional Services, Rajeev Trivedi; Zilla Parishad chairperson P Manjusri, IG Prisons Department B Saidaiah, Sangareddy Collector M Hanumantha Rao, Superintendent of Police S Chandrashekar Reddy, BPCL chief manager Suresh Tripathi and others were present.
