The members of Hindustani Gau Raksha Samiti (HGRS), an organisation comprising Hindu and Muslim religious leaders, intellectuals, and advocates of communal harmony, demanded that the Central Government implement a nationwide, legally binding ban on cow slaughter and designate the cow as the National Animal.
The newly elected president of HGRS, Vijayaviharam Ramana Murthy, while interacting with
media persons in Hyderabad on Monday, questioned the union Government as to why it has not yet introduced a constitutional amendment if it is sincere about cow protection.
The narrative propagated by communal elements that only Muslims are responsible for cow slaughter is a blatant lie. The government must answer as to why beef exports are highest in states currently governed by the BJP, he demanded.
