Heavy rush was witnessed at groceries across the older parts of the city with people rushing to buy essential commodities anticipating an announcement on another lockdown soon.

People thronged the Mir Alam Mandi, Mahboob Chowk, Engine Bowli and Madannapet markets since the early hours of the day with panic buying witnessed at some places. “We do not know how long the lockdown will continue this time. So to be on the safer side, we are stocking up essential items, said a local resident.

Long queues were

witnessed at banks and ATM centres as well since morning. Many ATM centres went dry for a few hours during the afternoon. However, cash was replenished towards evening. Most of those lined up in front of banks were women who had come to withdraw the financial assistance provided by the government.

Uncertainty over the rules for the lockdown this time is keeping many guessing. At every market corner or junction, push carts vendors were seen discussing how the next round of the lockdown would be.
