Heavy rain hit different parts of the city on Saturday, with the sky suddenly cloudy by noon and surprising people on the roads.  From then on, the sky remained cloudy for most of the day with occasional showers throughout the city.

The weather prompted the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to tweet a warning, pointing out that most parts of the GHMC area were likely to witness heavy rainfall and asked citizens to stay indoors unless it was unavoidable.

The GHMC also asked the public to call 100 for emergencies and to call 040-21111111 for any other assistance.  For help from the DRF team you can call

The director, EV&DM, GHMC also tweeted, saying DRF teams are being warned and that intense rainfall is expected in most parts of the city.  “Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless it is unavoidable,” he tweeted.

The Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, also issued a warning on Saturday about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over Telangana from Saturday to 23 September.  The warning also says that ‘heavy to very heavy rain’ is likely to occur in several districts including Hyderabad, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Yadadri Bhongir among others.
