Heavy rain lashed several parts in the Telangana State during the past 12 hours. The incessant rains especially battered the state capital, Hyderabad city on the third consecutive day throwing the normal life out of gear. Parts of Nalgonda, Medak, Mahabubnagar and Warangal districts received very heavy rainfall. Several parts of Hyderabad received 8 cms rainfall during the past 6 hours. Meanwhile, met officials warned that heavy rain very likely to occur at several parts of the state.

The Teams of Army and the National Disaster Response Forces have been put on standby in case of any eventuality. Two-day holidays declared to all educational institutes under purview of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. High alert has been sounded throughout the state as streams and lakes are overflowing posing inundation threat for more residential areas.

Incessant rains for the past three days under the influence of upper air trough and low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal crippled normal life in Hyderabad. Commuters and people residing nearby lakes are suffering the worst. Storm water flooded hundreds of residential colonies in and around Hyderabad and people in addition suffering due to lack of Electricity and water supply.



10pt;">Even the first floors of multi-floor complexes filled with rain water creating severe inconvenience to the residents. Night shelters have been set up, for the first time in the recent past providing safety to about 500 people as their colonies on the banks of lakes in Hyderabad inundated.

Meanwhile, all educational institutes in Hyderabad, Rangareddy districts have been closed till Monday following a warning by the met department of heavy rain for two more days. Army and teams of NDRF have been put on standby for meeting any eventuality. Commuters are the worst affected as the roads literally became streams bringing traffic almost to a halt.

Director General of Police Anurag Sharma directed all law and order police to come out and help stream line the traffic last evening. Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed several parts of Nalgonda, Warangal, Mahabubanagar and Medak districts following which rivers and rivulets are on spate inundating rail tracks and highways at many places.

Meanwhile, the South Central railway has cancelled over 40 trains from various points following tracks washed away in Guntur Division. Many more trains have been diverted through other routes and some have been short terminated at various places.
