Heavy rain lashes in parts of Hyderabad

Mon 01 Apr 2019, 12:06:24
Heavy rain lashed parts of Hyderabad on Sunday evening and provided a much needed respite from the sweltering heat. Though the rain controlled the upward surge of the mercury to some extent, meteorological department officials said that the temperature would continue to torment in the days to come.

On Sunday, the city sizzled at 40.9°C — the highest recorded temperature this season — and the minimum temperature was 24.9°C. The maximum temperature was 4°C above normal, while the minimum temperature was 2°C above normal in the month of March.

The rain in the evening, accompanied by lightning and thunder, inundated roads in some parts of the city and kept the traffic

personnel on their toes, attending calls of traffic snarls for a brief period.

People returning from Uppal stadium after the cricket match were caught unawares and got completely drenched, as the rain in that part of the city lasted for about half-an-hour.

Officials of the India Meteorological Department said that the entire week was likely to be hot and blazing as the maximum temperatures are set to increase further and may even reach the 41°C-mark within a short period.“Day temperature may rise to 41°C in the next few days. There are also possibilities of rain and thundershowers in the evening,” said an IMD official.
