Rains lashed the city on Thursday bringing much relief from the scorching heat. The sudden downpour in the city also brought down the mercury level from 40.5 degree Celsius to 24 degree Celsius by Thursday evening.

Heavy rain and strong winds were reported from areas such as Ameerpet, Alwal, Saroornagar, Himayath Nagar, Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Madhapur, LB Nagar etc. Due to heavy rainfall, few areas such as Champet were inundated with vehicles found stuck. Issuing warning of strong gale and thunderstorm activity in the city, Arvind Kumar, principal secretary (municipal administration and urban development), Telangana issued directions to officials to go out on the field immediately and ensure that the roads were



cleared of trees that were uprooted and other obstructions.

The rainfall also led to traffic snarls at various stretches. The road from Miyapur leading towards Punjagutta, SP road, Mehdipatnam to Masab Tank road were among the few stretches where the vehicular movement was affected.

Power disruption for a brief period was also reported from areas such as Jawahar Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Navodaya Colony, Vijay Nagar Colony to name a few.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, highest rainfall was recorded in Rajendra Nagar at 20.5 mm followed by Bollaram at 13.5 mm, West Maredpally at 8.3 mm, Golconda at 7.5 mm and Malkajgiri at 5.5 mm respectively.
