Harish Rao holds Congress govt responsible for alarming crisis in Gurukuls

Former Minister and senior BRS legislator T Harish Rao has held the Congress government responsible for the deteriorating conditions in Gurukul residential welfare schools across Telangana. Citing multiple student deaths, suicides, and food poisoning incidents, he demanded immediate intervention from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

“The death of 93 students during the Congress regime’s 20-month rule is painful and reflects administrative failure,” he said, urging urgent steps to ensure food safety, prevent further student suicides, and restore the once-lauded reputation of Telangana’s Gurukul education system.

In a statement, Harish Rao highlighted several recent incidents, including the suicide of a student at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Boys Gurukul School in Hanamkonda, another suicide at the Toopranpet BC Girls Gurukul School



in Yadadri-Bhongir district, and a food poisoning case at Devarakonda ST Girls Gurukul School in Nalgonda, where 15 students were hospitalised.

At the BC Gurukul School in Shamirpet, Medchal district, students staged a protest, alleging they were being served worm-infested rice.

Harish Rao questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on who should be held accountable for the crisis and accused him of failing to keep his promises to monitor Gurukuls and ensure the supply of quality food.

He criticised the government for not implementing the promised green channel for timely disbursement of mess charges. “Students are being served undercooked rice, watery soup, and poor-quality meals. Is the government unable to feed its students?” he asked. “The future of lakhs of SC, ST, and BC children is now under threat.”
