Harish Rao condemns lathi charge on unemployed youth protesting for recruitment notifications

Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao condemned the police action against unemployed youth who staged protests for government job notifications, in Dilsukhnagar on Wednesday and in Ashok Nagar on Thursday.

Calling it a clear case of State repression, he demanded the immediate and unconditional release of those who were detained, along with an inquiry into the alleged lathi-charge.

“Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy must answer for every injury caused to unemployed youth. Action must be taken against the officers responsible,” he said. He warned that the BRS would not remain silent, if the government continued to trample on the rights of job aspirants.

Harish Rao accused the Congress of exploiting unemployed youth before the elections and abandoning them after coming to power. “They camped



at Ashok Nagar library, begged for votes, used unemployed youth for door-to-door campaigning, and today, the same youth are being beaten and arrested for seeking what was promised to them,” he charged.

The BRS leader said Telangana now resembles a police State. He said the government has failed to deliver on its promises of two lakh jobs, unemployment allowance, and timely job notifications. “Without releasing job notifications for even 10,000 posts in the last two years, the Congress is taking credit for providing 60,000 jobs which were actually filled during the BRS regime,” he said.

He said rising anger among students and job seekers was being met with arrests instead of answers. “You cannot silence the unemployed with lathis and handcuffs. The fire of protest will only grow stronger with such suppression,” he cautioned.
